The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set new diesel emission standards for January 2007. These new codes are reducing emissions, but not to zero and not the same for cold start. To meet these acceptable levels, exhaust temperatures are predicted to reach in excess of 1000 F. Truck manufactures will use diesel particulate filters to help reach the new EPA standards. In 2003 the International Fire Code Institute formally consolidated into the International Code Council, (ICC) along with ICBO, BOCA and SBCCI. The ICC is dedicated to public safety through the development of fire prevention and building safety codes. BOCA IS THE ONLY CODE ORGANIZATION THAT SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSES THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TAILPIPE AND THE HOSE. BOCA (Building Officials and Code Administrations) Committee states that, "Large oversized hoses and non air tight connectors allow the introduction of cooling dilution air and allow a reduction in exhaust gas velocity to control back pressure." BOCA further states "tight fitting connectors will get hot creating a burn hazard for personnel." BOCA (a panel of eight members, including two technical advisers) voted down a request to change the standard code for motor vehicle operation to include words describing the tailpipe connector to be "AIR-TIGHT".
